Can a Certified Fire Door Inspector label or re-label doors in the field? If not, is there a Certification that can be earned that will authorize a person to label in the field?

From Intertek:

  • A Certified Fire Door Inspector is NOT allowed to label, or re-label frame and door assemblies in the field.
  • There is currently no Certification Program that will train then authorize a person to label frame and door assemblies in the field.
  • Only an employee of Intertek (or another approved testing agency) is authorized to inspect, and determine whether a frame and door assembly can be labeled in the field.

Curiously, it has been my experience in working with Intertek Inspectors that they do not actually affix the labels to frames and doors they approve for field labeling, but hand the label to us at IDN and watch as we apply it to the frame and or door.
