Question:

How do I protect my wood door from rotting/aging?

Answer:

All wood will absorb moisture, which leads to rot. Properly coating the door with an exterior grade polyurethane sealant will protect your door for a time. Re-application of coatings will be necessary to continue to extend the life of the wood door. Direct sunlight can damage a polyurethane coating over time, so you may need to apply the coatings more often depending on how much direct sunlight the door receives. Be sure to properly coat the top and bottom edges of the door, as well as the exposed raw wood at hardware cut-outs. Wear safety goggles, a mask that covers both nose and mouth, and use only in a well-ventilated area.
