Ask the Experts | Ask the Electronic Access Ace | How to Combine a Low Energy Operator and Timer Release Electric Strike?

Question:

I have a client with a 99 Rim Exit Device and an electric strike with a timer that releases the strike during normal business hours so there is free ingress. Now they want to add a low energy operator to the door and have the inside actuator to work 24 hours, 7 days a week, and the outside to work during normal business hours. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Answer:

First, I would remove the timer from the electric strike since the inside actuator operates 24/7. Then, add a second wireless receiver and place the timer in between the second receiver and the operator, a key switch could also be used. Another solution would be utilizing relays, such as the RB1224 or the BP3.
