Ask the EAC Experts | CAT5/6 Cable for My Wire Runs

Question:
I would like to use CAT5/6 cable for wire runs instead of using the cable the device specifies. Is that an option?

Answer:
Never use CAT5/6 cable in place of the cable the device specifies. Cat 5/6 cable will break when connecting to the device terminal strips. It will also lose voltage on long wire runs. Always use the exact wire the device specifies.
