Question:

I’m installing a new door with new hardware on an entrance at an office building. I’m clueless when it comes to determining the grade of hardware to use for it. Does it matter?

Answer:

The amount of traffic through any opening has a significant effect on the operational life of the door. High traffic increases the amount of wear and tear on the door, frame, and hardware. According to Rixson, a provider of concealed closers/pivots/and door holders, a large department store frequency of door openings can be 5,000 per day or 1.5M per year. For high traffic areas, the opening and doors should be equipped with Grade 1 or heavy duty products to help extend the operational life of the door and frame.
