Ask the Experts | Ask the Key Wizard | Mazda Key Chip Question

Question:

A customer brought in a Mazda key and the book called for an EK3-MAZ24. I thought I could use an old MAZ24RT5 that I had on my keyboard, but my cloning machine said it did not have the proper Mazda key chip in it. Why did this happen?

Answer:

The MAZ24RT5 was used on the 1998-1999 Mazda 626 with a V6. The reason it did not work was that it uses the Phillips Transponder System and the newer vehicles use the Texas Instruments Encrypted Code System.
