Question:

What’s the difference between “PoE” and “PoE Compatible”?

Answer:

PoE is Power Over Ethernet. PoE locks from most manufacturers connect “directly” to a network, Ethernet connections directly to the lock. Other companies sell PoE “Compatible” with which you must use a PoE edge device to power the lock, another piece of hardware that is not required. This is because the PoE/Network connectivity only goes as far as the edge device and typically stops before reaching the locking device. The use of PoE locks delivers a better result because of less wiring, labor and complexity of other systems.
