If you are reading this, you are already aware of Social Media. With Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc., sometimes it is hard to keep up. Just like it’s important to always keep your doors locked, it is also critical to always keep your social media profiles clean.

Social Media Strategies to Avoid Security Risk

  1. Change your passwords every three months is ideal, though we all know how difficult that is to do. Or rather, how difficult it is to remember the password you chose. Whatever you do, don’t use a popular password such as “Password” or “qwertyuiop” which is the top row of the keyboard.
  2. Check your privacy settings. Facebook is notorious for changing their privacy settings often which means items you thought were secure become non-secure at the next upgrade.
  3. Never post when you are going to be away from home. If you post you are on vacation, you may as well just leave your front door unlocked.
  4. On Facebook, friends can tag you in a post which means even if you didn’t want your photo posted, it will be on the internet. Check your security settings to lock down these types of posts.

Be smart, post smart, think smart.
