Strike and Lock Do Not Match Up

Question:
We have an opening in our building where the door is not staying shut. Upon further inspection, the strike and lock do not match up. Are there any solutions to fix this issue?

Answer:
There are a handful of options that you have in trying to remedy this issue. The first is, depending on how far off the locations are, trying a different strike with a more open hole to receive the latch on the lock. If the locations are far enough away you may need to replace or modify the door/frame. If the material is wood, you may, unfortunately, need to purchase new material to fit. However, if the existing material is hollow metal, there are alternations and modifications that can be made to both the door and frame to have the door positively latch. If that is not an option, a new door and/or frame may be required.
