Voltage Tips for a New Electronic Access System | Electronic Access Ace | Ask the Experts

Question:

I will be installing a new electronic access control system complete with keypads and strikes.  As most electric strikes use 12 volt or 24 volt, would you have any voltage tips for a new electronic access system?

Answer:

If you are working with a new system – and if all components are compatible – it is recommended to use 24 volts.  You will have more flexibility with your system as your ‘wire runs’ (the length of the wire) will be able to be longer.  Another benefit is that the gauge of the wire (thickness) does not need to be as large as it would with a 12 volt system over the same distance.
